What is Traditional Chinese Medicine?

Traditional Chinese Medicine is a system of diagnosis and complete healthcare based on a whole understanding of our bodies, minds and spirits in conjunction with the universe. TCM views human body not only as a physical  combination of  bones, blood, flesh etc, but also different interacting substances of Chi, Jing, Shen and Body Fluids   

The human body energy system is in connection with the whole outside universe energy system.  When there is a stagnation, imbalance of elements inside the body, or disharmony between the individual and universal energy system, problems and illnesses occur. A simple understanding of this theory, for example, if we expose ourselves in  a very cold environment, we will catch a cold, possibly together with a lung infection etc.  This, is because there is a disharmony between our body and the outside energy system.  While discomfort like headaches is normally caused by blockage of life energy - chi within the body. Of course, other illnesses might be a lot more complicated, as different parts of the physical and spiritual sides are interfering in different ways at the same time.

What is the history of TCM?

TCM has been practised in China for 5000 years.  The first herbal formulae has been transcribed in china in the 3rd century BC, while acupuncture has been carried out in the 1st century AD.  It has since become the main stream of the healthcare in China. Nowadays there are still a lot of traditional Chinese medicine hospitals, people enjoy taking advantages of TCM together with western medicine.
